Celebrating Progress at the Asian Pacific Cleft Congress

Share

This month, Khon Kaen University in Northern Thailand hosted the prestigious Asian Pacific Cleft Congress. The conference was led by friend and partner of Transforming Faces, Dr. Bowornsilp Chowchuen, a plastic surgeon from the Tawanchai Cleft Centre who has been an incredible supporter of TF’s cleft projects in Northern Thailand.

The first Asian Pacific Cleft Congress was hosted in 1988, and every four years it brings cleft professionals from across the region together to share their expertise and skills with one another. This was the first time it had been hosted in Thailand since its inaugural year!

This year’s conference was a great success, and included:

  • 479 participants
  • from 25 countries

Attendees included TF project lead from Sri Ramachandra (SRIHER) in India, and the entire cleft team from the Northern Women’s Development Foundation (NWDF) in Thailand. This was a great opportunity for SRIHER and NWDF to share information and explore opportunities for collaboration between the two projects.

This conference showcases the continued progress being made towards comprehensive cleft care in Asia, and TF is proud of the leadership among our friends and partners in driving local cleft care forward.
