Training Cleft Professionals in Argentina

Share

TF proudly encourages our partners to share their extensive expertise with other cleft professionals. This is an important way to build up the cleft profession in our partner countries – and expand access to comprehensive cleft care more broadly.

This October, 200 Latin American cleft professionals participated in the 14th National Cleft Lip and Palate Congress in Argentina. Participants included several of TF’s skilled partners. This event was an important opportunity to share knowledge and expertise with one another in a local context.

TF is especially proud that our Chilean partner (and cleft centre of excellence!) Fundacion Gantz sent experts from their renowned dental team to help deliver a workshop on pre-surgical cleft care to conference attendees. In particular, they focused their teachings on Nasoalveolar Moulding (NAM), an important method used to reshape the nose, gums and lips of an infant with cleft lip and palate prior to surgery for better outcomes.

Their NAM workshop was delivered to dentists from 20 multidisciplinary teams across Argentina – who now know how to incorporate this technique into their practice in their own communities!

We are encouraged to see this collaboration and knowledge-sharing happening in Latin America, and of our partners’ important role in facilitating this!
